Profile

Professor Ana Paula Valente

Role

Professor of Chemical Biology

Speciality

Antimicrobial proteins in complex with membranes and Dengue virus proteins in complex with antibodies

University/Institution

Department of Structural Biology, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro

Location

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Prof. Valente undertook PhD studies at the State University of São Paulo in Brazil and Pos-Doc in Biomolecular NMR in prof. Stanley Opella’s lab at the University of Pennsylvania in the USA. Since her arrival at UFRJ in 1996 she has been using NMR to study protein structure and dynamics in the free state and in complex with other proteins as well as with membrane mimetics. Prof. Valente has been studying antimicrobial proteins in complex with membranes and Dengue virus proteins in complex with antibodies. The structural and dynamics information can contribute to the development of new antimicrobial compounds and more effective vaccines. More recently, Prof. Valente has been using Metabolomics to address differences in healthy and disease states.
