Institut Pasteur de Montevideo (IPM) and School of Medicine, Montevideo

Location

Montevideo, Uruguay

Carlos obtained his PhD at the University of Granada, Spain (Instituto López Neyra de Parasitología y Biomedicina, CSIC), working on molecular biology and pharmacology of trypanosomatids. As researcher his work is focused on molecular biology and genomics of trypanosomatids and their interaction with host cells. In particular his lab has characterized virulence factors in Trypanosoma cruzi of relevance in infection and persistence. In the last years he started to work in genomics characterization of T. cruzi, and transcriptional changes during infection, both in parasites and host cells.

In addition, his laboratory has a platform of deep sequencing and microarrays, which provides technical assistance to other research groups.
